Uløya Ski Touring

Where Mountains Meet the Sea

Ski Touring in Arctic Norway, Without the Crowds

Uløya is a small island in the Lyngen Alps, just off Norway’s northern coast. It’s a quiet place — no ski lifts, no big tour groups, just fjords, peaks, and a handful of locals. From our cozy lodge on the island’s western side, we have access to ski touring both on Uløya itself and in the surrounding region. Some days we’ll step into our skis not far from the lodge; other days we’ll take a short drive and ferry to explore nearby islands or the Lyngen mainland.

This isn’t a sailboat trip or hut-to-hut traverse. It’s a road-based, lodge-supported ski touring week with all the flexibility and none of the stress. With two guides and a group size of six people, we can adapt each day to conditions and group energy.

Back at the lodge, you’ll settle into a relaxed rhythm — sauna, ocean views, and dinners prepared by a private chef using fresh, local ingredients.

How it Works

This trip is built around flexibility. Our lodge has ferry and road access to a wide range of ski touring terrain. Each day, we’ll choose our objective based on weather, avalanche conditions, and group energy. Some days, we’ll ski right on the island — Uløya has several beautiful tours that start close to the lodge. Other days, we’ll hop in our vehicle and take a short ferry to a nearby island.

The ability to move around means we’re not locked into one zone or weather pattern. If the snow is better across the fjord or the light breaks on the other side, we go there. No committing to one anchorage, no zodiac transfers — just a car, a ferry, and good skiing in every direction.

We aim for full touring days, with time to enjoy the skin up, ski quality snow, and take in the views. Evenings are for sauna, good food, and relaxing while trip planning for the next day.

Two guides allow us to tailor the experience to the group. If needed, we can split for different pacing or terrain.

The Lodge

The lodge is clean, modern, and purpose-built for small groups — a warm, comfortable space to come back to after a big day in the mountains. There’s room to stretch out, dry your gear, and ease into a slower pace: good meals, a hot shower, maybe a sauna session before bed.

Sleeping arrangements are a mix of private and shared rooms. While not everyone will have their own room, the layout works well for a small group — comfortable beds, thoughtful design, and enough space for everyone to get the rest they need.
